Fremantle Counselling & Psychological Services

Individuals, Couples, and Families

Our Counselling is a professional relationship process that provides a safe, supportive, non-judgemental and confidential space where you can discuss your concerns with us. Counselling is generally short-term and provides assistance with immediate problems related to everyday life. We are trained to carefully listen, raise awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and physiological responses related to your unique experience and context. It is mainly goal-oriented and solution focused in order to facilitate stress reduction and healthier ways of coping.

Individuals, Couples, and Groups

Psychotherapy is a professional non-judgemental relationship process that provides a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you can discuss your deeper and longer-standing concerns with us. Psychotherapy is a longer-term process. The process explores the deeper meaning, vision, and purpose of your life.  It involves a deeper journey and insight into how your conscious and unconscious mind works together to contribute to the creation of your life. Psychotherapy addresses the automatic and habituated thoughts, feelings, physiological responses, and behaviors developed in the earlier times of your life. We have specialist training and skills to assist you in developing more choiceful authentic, and creative ways of Being. Psychotherapy brings freedom from the limitation of the past resulting in more presence and engagement in the immediacy of life. It brings lasting positive changes.

Not all Psychotherapists have mental health training backgrounds. At the Fremantle Counselling & Psychological Services, all practitioners have both psychological mental health and or couples and family therapy training and an advanced minimum of 3 to 4 years of psychotherapy training additional to university accreditation that is internationally recognized.

The models of psychotherapy our therapists have extensive training in include:

  • Gestalt Psychotherapy
  • Existential Psychotherapy
  • Transpersonal/Spiritual Psychotherapy
  • Somatic Experiencing Therapy
  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Psychological Therapy

Psychological Therapy involves a professional clinical diagnostic assessment and the development of a treatment plan based on the diagnosis. It has a counseling focus directed to mental health concerns. Psychological Therapists have often trained in either Psychology and or Clinical Mental Health Social Work.  Psychological therapy differs from depth psychotherapy in that an accredited psychotherapist has additional years beyond university training of specific psychotherapeutic approaches such as Gestalt Therapy, Existentialism, Jungian therapy, Hakomi Therapy, and Psychoanalytic Self Psychology. However, not all Psychotherapists have mental health psychological training.

At Fremantle Counselling & Psychological Services all practitioners have both psychological mental health, and additional advanced psychotherapeutic training.

Meditation & Deeper States of Relaxation

Individuals, Couples, and Groups

Meditation is a deeply relaxing and natural process that can help to restore balance and harmony in the mind and body. Meditation offers many health benefits along a continuum from simple stress management to more heightened states of awareness and spiritual experiences. Some of the benefits of meditation include:

  • Stronger focus and concentration
  • Clearer thoughts and less emotional turmoil
  • Reduced tension, anxiety, stress, and depression
  • Lower blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Increased understanding and self-acceptance
  • A deeper sense of meaning, connection, and purpose
  • Glimpses of a spiritual dimension of Being

Deeper states of relaxation involve some light hypnotic techniques, both contemporary and more ancient approaches. When the body and mind are relaxed a healing zone emerges where the body-mind enters into an optimum state of regeneration and repair.

Clinical Hypnosis

Clinical hypnosis is a process that involves bringing focus, and meaningful attention in a very relaxed manner to empower people by assisting them to connect with deeper inner resources and strengths. (M Yapco: 2014)

Clinical hypnosis has been used to assist in the treatment of depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, illness, stomach problems, and much more. Hypnosis in general is also a process of magnifying and manifesting more what you wish to nourish and grow in your life.

The process of clinical hypnotherapy endeavors to facilitate a client’s connection to their deeper creative and healing resources by inducing a state of relaxation and then intentionally delivering positive and healing suggestions to the client’s subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is that part of us that holds long-term memories, it is the part of us that is highly imaginative, holds our beliefs, habits, and is unlimited in its potential and healing resources.

Specific hypnotic suggestions are always used to support a client towards health and wholeness. The client is always in control and the innate built-in protective mechanism of the subconscious mind can reject any suggestions that are offered by the hypnotherapist at any stage.

Clinical Hypnosis is a therapeutic process that can assist in the optimization of your health and wellbeing.

Transpersonal Psychology & Psychotherapy

Transpersonal Psychology & Psychotherapy is an approach that acknowledges that our fundamental humanity is interconnected to a reality that not only includes our relationship with the earth but also with a broader conscious cosmos, and an experience of Self that is expanded and eternal beyond ego experiencing. Many have a deeper sense of something greater within ourselves and around us yet we find it hard to make rational sense of. We question our soul’s purpose, deeper meaning in life, how the tiny physical speck of us is connected to the vast universe, and a spiritual Self.

Transpersonal therapy provides an opportunity to explore a person’s experience of spirituality, mystical, religious, altered states of consciousness, peak experiences, extra-ordinary human abilities,  super-natural, near-death experiences, deeper intuitions, synchronicities, dreams and vision, and their connection with consciousness connected to yet also possibly beyond the brain function.

The focus of Transpersonal Psychology & Psychotherapy transcends our pure ego identification and explores our sense of Self that experiences unity, belonging, and interconnectedness with all of Life that deep inside many of us feel exists.

Transpersonal therapy is an approach that goes beyond the borders of pure psychological functioning. It is a therapy that is congruous with many recent scientific findings in spiritual practices, quantum consciousness, and non-local consciousness.

Shamanic therapy is one distinct aspect of transpersonal psychotherapy, however, the transpersonal field is much broader and more encompassing than pure shamanic practice.

Transpersonal therapy is more than purely introducing an interest of the transpersonal into psychological therapy. Transpersonal training is unique, rigorous, and different from standard psychological training. At the Fremantle Counselling & Psychological Services, we have therapists who have professional training in transpersonal psychology and the science of consciousness.
